Careful steps...
Anxiety, anger, frustration, grief, or despair will not go away unless they are expressed. A crisis will not be solved if it hasn't been acknowledged. The therapist must hear these feelings and must be concerned with the situation. But the client needs more.
...toward lasting results
Action will be the next step, in order to rewrite the rules of those human interactions which appear to maintain or worsen problems instead of solving them. Therapeutic tasks lead to new everyday experiences, soon resulting in lasting cognitive and behavioural change.
How soon ? Typically within a few months and most frequently after less than ten sessions.
