When we feel stuck, going nowhere — even starting to slip backward — we may actually be backing up to get a running start.

Dan Millman

Crisis and balance

Personal, family, or professional crisis situations are always uniquely challenging. Yet they very often appear to have a similar cause. Whatever worked no longer does : someone or something is missing.

A system, however complex, relies on self-regulation. Its balanced operation may depend on the presence of a person, a concept, a rule, a realistic goal or a wild fantasy. Take one of these away and the system either freezes or enters a state of perpetual conflict.

Focusing on mere symptoms usually results in designating a patient requiring medical care.

A closer look at the environment may reveal a person needing assistance on the way from crisis to balance.
